Emre-Zhan: a few months ago, no one thought that I would become the captain. Many people in dort are leaders.

Live broadcast on August 17 News Dort’s new captain Emre Zhan was interviewed by German Sky Sports recently. He said bluntly that no one could have thought he would play such an important role a few months ago, and he will also repay this trust.

In Emre-Zhan’s view, he is not the only leader in the team: “We are all leaders, but if you see anything, then as the captain, I hope everyone can say it. Wearing skipper’s armband doesn’t mean I am the only leader player. Many other teammates are also experienced and can take things into their own hands.”

“I know I am shouldering responsibility now, and I know this position is accompanied by responsibility. I will do it as best as possible. But in the end, I was just trying to be myself.”

Emre-Zhan, 29, joined Dort in 2019 and has just renewed his contract to 2026 this summer. However, for a long time before, his ups and downs could not make a breakthrough, and he finally became an indispensable midfield general under Terzic in the second half of last season.

Emre-Zhan said: “six or seven months ago, no one would have thought that I would become the captain, and I couldn’t think of it myself. I am very glad that this happened after the next half of last season. For me, this is a big vote of confidence cast by the management, and I will do my best to make a return.”

Dort had injury problems during this summer’s preparation and last week’s German Cup. Emre-Zhan said: “I think it is a pity that this situation is normal during the preparation period, because sometimes you have to reach the limit in training to have a good competitive state.”

This Saturday, Dortmund will play Cologne at home in the first league match of the new season.
